Following the massive success of “Who Wants To Live Forever” and the album “Forever”, DUNE released “Nothing Compares 2 U” as the follow up single. Written by Prince, and made famous by Sinéad O’Connor, DUNE’s version doesn’t stray too far from the style of O’Connor’s 1990 hit. By this stage, Verena von Strenge had left the group to pursue a solo career; accordingly, the video doesn’t feature either Verena or Oliver.

Without Verena, DUNE was unable to properly promote the single beyond the video release, and, unsurprisingly, the single failed to chart in Germany. It fared better in Austria, spending two weeks in the Top 40 (No. 36).

Did you know?

• A 12” vinyl was released containing remixes by DJ Beam, DJ E.B.O and DJ Errik. However, perhaps due to the lack of chart success, these remixes were not issued on a Maxi Single. The ‘DJ Beam’s Radio Mix’ would later appear on “History – The Very Best Of”, retitled as “Beam & Yanou Radio Edit”.


• Oliver & Verena didn’t appear in the video because Verena already left the group. The main character is portrayed by Chetan Hansraj, an Indian film and television actor.
