“Expedicion” is the second album by German band DUNE. It was released in April 1996 on the Orbit Records label and distributed by Virgin Germany. In contrast to the first album, the songs on “Expedicion” contain more lyrics and it was the first album for which Verena von Strenge provided vocals. Von Strenge had previously been a dancer with the project. The album was preceded by the Top 20 single “Rainbow To The Stars”. Two further singles were released from the album, “Hand In Hand” (May 1996) and “Million Miles From Home” (August 1996).

The album peaked at No. 15 in Germany, remaining on the charts for four months. It reached the Top 30 in Switzerland and the Top 40 in both the Netherlands and Finland.

Did you know?

  • Track 1, “Rising”, samples the launch sequence from Nasa’s STS-51-C shuttle launch, from 24th January, 1985. The sample can be found on numerous tracks over the years, including the track “There Is A Star” by Pharao, another German music project at the time.

  • Track 11, “In The Air – Part 2” contains a sample from the 1979 movie “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”. The voice is that of Dr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) saying, “No doubt a sensor-transceiver combination, recording everything we say and do”

  • The album title is the Spanish word for ‘Expedition’.

  • This release marks the return of Janine Kelly, Oliver’s niece, who provides the spoken vocals for the track “In My Dreams”. Janine previously provided vocals for the first album, and most notably, for the famous line ‘This one is dedicated to all the ravers in the nation’.
