“Dune” is the self-titled, first album by DUNE. It was released in July, 1995 on the Urban label (a subdivision of Motor Music GmbH). Both the band and album name come from the classic 1984 movie “Dune”, which was a favourite of the producers.
The album contains mostly instrumental techno songs, and many of the track titles correspond with events from the movie. Its release was preceded by two singles, “Hardcore Vibes” (here in an edited form of the “South Bound Mix”) and “Are You Ready To Fly”. The version of “Can’t Stop Raving” found on the album is radically different from the single version that would follow in October 1995, although it still contains the famous ‘I Can’t Stop Raving’ line provided by Oliver’s niece Janine.
In Germany, the album peaked at No. 21, spending three months in the Top 100. In Switzerland, the album reached the Top 20, while it peaked inside the Top 60 in the Netherlands.

Did you know?
- Track 6, “The Spice”, although uncredited, the vocal part is done by Oliver Froning.
- Track 8, “Can’t Stop Raving”, samples Talk Talk’s “Dum Dum Girl”.
- Track 13 contains a hidden track. Listed on the cover/inlay as having a runtime of 8:05, approximately two minutes of silence follows the track ‘In The End’. Then a sound-sample (from outer space) can be heard containing a distorted recording of Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1, 2nd Movement can be heard in the last 55 seconds.
- On promo copies of the album, the original running order had tracks 4 and 8, “Future Is Now” and “Can’t Stop Raving”, switched around. Additionally, track 11, “Positiv Energy”, was titled “Positive Energy”.
- Oliver’s niece, Janine Kelly, who was just 11 years old provided most of the vocals. One day she came visit Dune in the studio and while Oliver was showing her various instruments she asked him to use the microphone to hear her own voice through headphones. Fortunately, he recorded her “session,” which, among other things, included the phrase “this one is dedicated to all the ravers in the nation” that became one of the key parts of the track. Dune then decided to involve little Janine again for new vocals recorded directly in her bedroom through a DAT recorder that Oliver took with him to London.
