Following the departure of Verena Von Strenge from the project at the end of 1996, DUNE began searching for a new singer, eventually hiring Vanessa Hörster. The first new material to appear was the single “Keep The Secret”, a mid-tempo electro-trance number. The song and imagery took the listener on a journey through time, telling them about the myths and legends of the Egyptian Pharaohs, the Pyramids of the Nile and the Sphinx.

Despite a Top 40 placing, “Keep The Secret” failed to match the success of previous singles; nevertheless, work began on the new DUNE album. Planned for late summer 1998, the album was to be called “5”. Prior to the album’s release, DUNE opted to release a second single, “Electric Heaven”. The track combined the dance beats of the nineties with the electronic musical style of the eighties, resulting in a fresh, new song perfect for the summer. Unfortunately, the single wasn’t well received and fared worse than ‘Keep The Secret’ on the charts. Following the performance of the two singles, DUNE decided to stop working on “5”, and, shortly after, Vanessa departed the group to pursue other career paths. DUNE decided to start work on a second classical-style album, which would later be released as ‘Forever And Ever’, and didn’t feel that Vanessa was suited to the project.

  • Rumor has it that the 3 B-sides found on the “One Of Us” Maxi-single (“Black Sands”, “Destination Keflavik” and “Seljalandsfoss”) are leftovers from the “5” album project, renamed to suit this release.

  • Based on the imagery used, it is likely that the game included in the enhanced section of “History (The Very Best Of)” was to be used for the “5” album project.
